the Witch from Mercury: Prologue

Time to read: 1 minute

No major spoilers here

I haven't watched any Gundam series until the Witch from Mercury. I actually passed up on the series when it was airing because I thought it was just another series riding on the coat-tails of success seen by studios where the majority of their shows are CGDCT. After seeing some memes floating around that indicated that there was more to the show I decided to give it a go and I was pleasantly surprised. (I still can't say I'm a fan of mechas in general, sorry!)

The prologue was short, with a runtime of 23 minutes, but the staff were able to create a poignant episode to set the stage for the rest of the series. Other than war related themes, the one that stood out to me the most was humanity's struggle to adapt to disruptive technology. The timing of the release of the series could not have been better with the recent generative AI boom and the advances in gene editing with the advent of CRISPER-Cas9 in the past decade.
